Let’s face it…our world has changed over the past few years. We certainly have. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2019, TDG went digital with the rest of the world. As with many other companies, we saw how well a work-from-home landscape could work for our employees and our clients, so we decided to stay that way going forward. Now, years later, as our completely digital agency continues to expand in terms of team size and complexity, creating a healthy team environment is essential. From fostering collaboration to building trust, maintaining a successful team dynamic is key to ensuring a productive and successful agency. Here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at how we do it.

Foster an atmosphere of trust

Every employee at TDG is part of our team because they are talented and capable. We don’t do micromanaging…we trust each other when it comes to getting the job done and have a collaborative mindset to problem-solving. We value diversity of thought, experience, and background and work to create an environment where we all feel like our ideas have a spot at the table.

Celebrate the big, the small, and everything in between

When one of us does something great (which happens quite often), we shout each other out on our “Kudos” group chat so that we can all share in the success. We don’t all get to work on every project, so this is a great way to stay up to date on the amazing things our team members are accomplishing.

Establishing shared ideals helps to ensure that everyone is unified and working towards the same objectives. Having a written, accessible set of “values” as a company is something we believe in strongly. These fundamental beliefs guide everything we do – in the creative process, the materials we create, and how we work as a team!

Have a little (or a lot) of fun.

We can’t just walk down the hall to visit each other’s offices anymore…most of us are many cities apart! That doesn’t mean we can’t have a blast together; it just requires a bit more thought and effort. From regularly scheduled Zoom “happy half-hours” to in-person parties, events, and gatherings, we take every opportunity to hang out as a group. Our team loves a good challenge/competition, and if there is a theme, our “Think Tank” party planning committee is all over it. We also send out a quarterly “TDG Scoop” email blast internally, where we can share what’s going on in our personal lives to keep us connected.

While we may not all be together in one location as often as we would like, the TDG team is stronger than ever. Working as a digital agency requires a little more forethought and care to foster a team environment, but it also comes with a LOT of benefits. How many people can say they get to work in their slippers, with their furry friends, or maybe even from a lawn chair in the sun when the weather finally warms up?
