Storytelling with Style - Choosing The Right Video Format for Your Brand

Storytelling with Style - Choosing The Right Video Format for Your Brand

Marketing is all about telling your brand’s story in new and creative ways to reach your target audience. Video is probably the most effective and instant way to forge a connection with your customer because it is such a visual and audio experience…two of our strongest senses combined. Though, not all formats work for every circumstance. Let’s break down what kind of videos we use in the marketing world and how/where they can be effective tools for our clients.

Brand Positioning

This is often one of the first videos we produce when partnering with a new client. The goal is to introduce a client’s brand to their customers and authenticate its services, businesses, products, and ethics. A brand positioning video (BPV) can talk through the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, why, and how).

Best used on:

  1. Website Landing
  2. LinkedIn
  3. Facebook Page
  4. YouTube Page Feature

We start with writing the copy then send a video team to capture real-life broadcast-quality content, and an agreed-upon Voice-Over Artist will speak over the footage explaining everything on the screen. This video type is extremely important because it allows us to convey a lot of information to the viewer while holding their attention telling the brand story.

Example:

Eye Candy

In the world of social media marketing, there’s only so much time to catch your viewers’ attention while they are scrolling through a feed. With Eye Candy videos, it’s important to be creative with camera and lighting techniques to make a video that stands out on a crowded page. When using the power of forced perspective, if done well, these types of videos make the consumer want to see more.

Best used on:

1.     Instagram

2.     Facebook

These are effective videos for selling products. We can set the stage with props and dramatization that force the viewer to associate your product with a feeling, taste, and much more. The Eye Candy method does not often include voice. It’s less about explaining the product and more about making an impression. Well-thought-out shots and song selection provide the message. We also have the option to add text overlays to hammer the point home.

Example:

Storyteller

As this name suggests, this is another type of video that ‘tells a story’, but it is more than a brand positioning video. Storytelling lets the viewer feel like they are up close and personal with the content on-screen. It lets people see what day-to-day life looks like for someone else, often making viewers feel like they are really there.

Best used on:

  1. YouTube Channel
  2. Instagram IGTV
  3. Facebook Page

These videos are organic content designed to engage an audience and make them feel as if they are getting a sneak peek into another life. This is a fantastic way to move forward with a YouTube channel or an IGTV series and is ideal for people interested in things that can be taught on screen.

When creating this type of video, our camera crew captures real life, creates a story, and helps you make additions that make the video more exciting or informational!

Example:

One and Done

Sometimes things or ideas just come up! It’s never a bad idea to update and engage your audience on news surrounding your business. A new policy? A big event? Maybe trying to reach a new audience? This type of video can be anything you need.

Best used:

  1. Everywhere

This is an opportunity to document and save memories. We can create a short video from just about anything. This could also be an investment for future video projects. When our team starts building a library of footage related to your business, we can dig back into that footage to further tell a story. This is especially helpful in showing progress over longer periods.

Example:

Mini Video/Reels

This is quick and simple and most often used on…

  1. Instagram

Designed to hold and foster engagement, mini videos showcase just a few clips to grab attention long enough for someone to read the post associated with it.

From our perspective, this is generally easier if you are a regular video client, meaning we have a library of clips to work with. This separates a post from static graphics and helps your content to stand out.

Example:

Tutorial

Most people are visual learners, so on-screen step-by-step instructions are generally easy to follow. If you are looking to help others complete a project or learn a new skill, a tutorial video is a way to go.

Best used on:

  1. Email
  2. YouTube

We use a range of standard filming and even animation for tutorial videos. Our crew can set up at any location and film a live session of a project being completed. We edit the footage to be as concise and clear as possible (let’s say you sell BBQs. You don’t want your customer getting fed up with their new purchase before it’s even put together). This style is also effective for people creating organic content who want to show their audience how to “do it themselves” for just about anything.

Example:

Animation

Animation allows an infinite amount of visual possibilities so this format is best used on:

  1. YouTube
  2. Facebook
  3. LinkedIn

There's always been a fascination with animation and the satisfaction of watching pictures come to life. Depending on the project, it may be the most effective way to visualize a message.

These videos can be made from scratch and usually do not require any in-person video/photoshoots. In circumstances when clients and creators are not able to gather in person, this becomes an efficient way to make new content. While this is a major advantage, it is important to note the process behind animating videos generally takes longer due to needing assistance from our graphic designers.
